THE GREEN COUNTY SALVATION ARMY
SERVICE EXTENSION UNIT (GCSASEU)
P.O. Box 141, Monroe, WI 53566

The Green County Salvation Army (GCSASEU)
is a group of closely knit volunteers who seek to help folks in their local county. We provide one time emergency service to qualifying needy individuals and families who request assistance. We also attempt to work together with our county and community agencies to help meet the need. The Salvation Army is firstly a spiritual organization that endeavors to meet the needs of the whole person. Many times folks think they just need a money fix, when in fact a lack of finances may be just a symptom of a much deeper spiritual problem. Normally folks are given an opportunity for spiritual council and pointed to the only permanent solution to life's problems. However service offered is freely given with no strings attached. They are first to try their local family and then their extended family for support. If a person has a church home or denomination they are encouraged to seek help there as well. Many times folks have burned too many bridges so they have no where to turn, in this case and in most cases they are given an opportunity to renew or build a new relationship with their Creator.

The local Salvation Army runs several programs: The Fema Rental Program when FEMA/EFSP money's are available. We run a program called the Hometown Energy Fund to help Alliant Customers with past due account. We act as an advocate between company and customer and try to work out a viable solution to both parties. We also handle the Shopko Eye Care Program - a program for young needy children (6-17) in need of eye glasses. We run a drug assistance program for senior citizens as well. We also do special projects during the year such as school supplies for needy children and special Christmas gifts to seniors in nursing homes which are ongoing. We target widows (the elderly) and orphans(those with no support system) and those finding themselves in desperate straits beyond their own control.

We have in the past given seed money to support organizations or individuals who have a new idea of how to improve our community. Though our organization primarily exist to help families and the needy we seek to promote innovative ideas that will assist the common good of man. We seek to motivate folks to contribute to society for as the bible says "if a man will not work, neither shall he eat". Work is something God has given to man. It is a blessing. Some may have physical or emotional challenges but this does not exclude them from work. Almost everyone can do something to add value to his community, regardless if they receive a pay check or not.

We seek to give hands and feet to the words of Jesus when He said, "For I was hungry you gave me food, when I was thirsty you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you took me in, naked and you clothed me, sick and in prison and you visited me," with these words and the unction of God, William Booth started the Salvation Army in the slums of east London, England ministering to people whom the world said were beyond help.
